A Question for You—and an Encouragement for Your Leadership

Building a business is hard. I've done it a couple of times.

Leading a team is not easy. I've got many personal stories to prove it.

This is not just my experience; it's the way it is everywhere. Everyone would do it and be successful if it were easy, right?

So why are you doing it?

If you're reading this, then you’re a leader. Maybe you are building a business, managing a team, guiding a group of volunteers, or just trying to be a better leader to yourself and your family.

And you know it's a tough gig. But you do it anyway.

We may each have different motivations, and usually we have more than one: spiritual, religious, financial… There can be internal and external reasons for wanting to excel at leadership.

Whatever your motivations are, I want to help you be a better leader and get more satisfaction out of doing what you do.

I hope this newsletter, as irregular as it is, encourages you and provides practical help in leading. And I want to do more.

What would benefit you most in 2026? One of my goals is to be more intentional with planning and sending content. Part of that would be to provide what is most beneficial to you!

So, hit reply or send me a text on what topics you’d like to see hit your inbox next year.

Finally, I want to make sure you know I’m available for more than just an email. Using my experience and skills to serve other leaders is what I love to do - so here is how I do that:

  1. Executive Coaching: One-on-One coaching is one of the most effective things I do for leaders. In addition to my work experience, I have trained with the Professional Christian Coaching Institute and am pursuing a certification with the International Coaching Federation in order to be the best coach I can be for you.
  2. Strategic Planning: Individuals, businesses, and non-profit boards hire me to help facilitate the process to develop an effective vision and the plans to make that vision a reality.
  3. Fractional COO Services: A Fractional COO (Chief Operating Officer) is your part-time executive partner for operations. You get the expertise and leadership of a seasoned professional without paying a full-time salary and benefits.

I would love to share more if one of these three services sparks your curiosity. I’m about as low-pressure as it comes when it comes, so don’t be afraid to ask for more information.

Thanks for doing the hard work of leadership! The world would not be the same without you.

You’re Not Just Hiring. You’re Building Something. Most leaders treat hiring like a problem to solve. A seat is empty. Work is piling up. So you post a job, screen some résumés, run a few interviews, and make an offer. Problem solved — until the next seat opens up, and you do it all over again. But here’s what that approach quietly costs you: you end up with a collection of individuals rather than a team. And over time, that difference shows up everywhere — in how people collaborate, how they...

Many of you will be turning the page and refocusing as we close Q1 2026 and hit the ground running for Q2. Some of you are still just heads down, working away, unaware of the quarterly cycles that drive many businesses and reporting rhythms. Neither of those postures is wrong. It depends on where you are in business and how your life is structured. Quarterly rhythms can be very helpful. They can also be unnecessary if you aren’t beholden to them. I’m turning the page this week, but not just...

Happy New Year! And welcome to 2026. I've got a lot of cool things to share this year but first a reflection on how I could have done better. We were wrapping up our last coaching session of the year when my client asked, "Do you think my business is successful?" I paused, not because I wasn't confident in my answer, but because I was disappointed in myself that he had to even ask the question. I saw it as a poor reflection of my coaching system rather than the status of his endeavors. This...
